DCC Sound in N scale

OK, I’ll just continue to ask questions here since there is so much help. I really like the idea of DCC, and especially sound equipped DCC. Is this possible on N scale equipment? I know I’ve seen some steam engines with sound, but what about diesels? How do they sound? How much work is it to put them in? Once again, thank you in advance for your replies.

here’s the start of probably many more to come.

Now that is just cool!! That is exactly what I was looking for, thanks. I hope there are a lot more to come from this. The only problem is the roads. I often find that the coolest engines either weren’t used by my road, or are not offered by manufacturers. I model CP or CN. I may branch out into BN as well, as they come into BC. My modeling area is the prairies of Alberta to the coast of BC, mostly hauling coal, grain and intermodel, at least at this stage of the plan.

Then MAKE um!! that’s what it’s all about.

It’s going to be nearly impossible to do in older hood units, there jus isn’t any space in those narrow hoods to put a decent size speaker and still have weights so that it can pull more than itself. A dummy is probably the best bet for smaller N scale. Even the motor only decoders often need some of the weight milled out to fit.
Can units now, have significantly more room. A couple of years ago already I saw a PRR E8 with Soundtraxx in N scale. The speaker was in the fuel tank area and was amazingly large for the small size of the loco - horn sounded GREAT! This is the same approach PCM is taking. Still, a dummy would be even better, mre speaker room.
Steam is doable in N because you usually have all the space in the tender to work with.

Nope, not in N scale. I’ll buy the expensive stuff done, but I haven’t the time or patience for doing that in N scale. I have maybe three hours a week on average to spend on my hobby, and thats not the way I want to spend it. I like building scenery and structures, but engines and rolling stock are not enjoyable for me. And I enjoy running them. [:D]
