DCC-sound question

Is this option available or is it going to be something to hope for the future? Is there anyway to varythe sound ot the engine independant ot actual loco speed? I watch a train assault the rockies on the club layout, but because the models don’t need a lot of throttle to make the climb they sound like the are taking the grade in the first notch instead of run-7 or 8 that would be needed for the prototype. It would be nice it it were controlled with a rotary knob similar to the throttle.

The top sound decoders have bemf information from the motor control section to the sound control section to cause the sound to change under load conditions. QSI®, LokSound V3.5 (and others?) support this. It may take some playing with the CVs (read the manual) to get the effect you desire.

Only the latest updated QSI chips have it - and the updated diesel ones which are just now coming out have manual notching. Soundtraxx has always had manual notching in their decoders, the Tsunamis do the load and drift thing very well, but there’s no diesel Tsunami, yet. Expect that it will have manual notching capability.

neil300,

I have several Soundtraxx decoders installed in F-units. You can set them up for automatic or manual engine/throttle sychonization. When set for ‘manual’ you can independantly increase or decrease the engine sound with function/number keys.

I’m at work now, and don’t recall which CVs are involved. I have tried the manual engine speed and it seems to work okay. My BRVRR is flat so I have little need for it, but I think this is what you are looking for.

To answer your question in a word or two, yes, with Soundtraxx decoders. I’ll have to check with the others on my layout which include BLI/Quantum and MRC.

Hope this helps.
