I looked at starter sets and decided I could afford a big set and not have to spend so much on upgrades. I got radio, and love it. I went with Digitrax but only because the people I know use it and it is good to have people to talk to. I saw one NCE and it sure worke nice.

The new NCE starter is called the PowerCab. Here’s a link to Tony’s page about it.

I have the older, bigger model, the Pro Cab, probably the one you saw. One of the good things I hear about the PowerCab is, if you decide to upgrade to a ProCab in the future, the PowerCab works with it, as a full-function cab.

But by all means investigate it. The link has it’s own links to other info, and NCE’s website. I’d strongly recommend talking to the folks at Tony’s – they’re great at even-handed advice, without regard to their short-term profit, and they handle just about everything DCC, so have the whole picture. Tony himself once told me I didn’t need something I was ready to buy, and he was right! Can’t beat that.

The main things are: 1. Does it do what you want? 2. If there is ANY chance you’ll ever upgrade, is it reasonably upgradeable? 3. Does it “feel” right – does it work in a way that makes sense to you? Here, especially, there are lots of opinions and no single “right” answer for everybody.

It was written right after I received my Power Cab, back at the end of February. Trust it will answer a number of your questions.
