Will DCC work with common rail? My railroad club is stuck with a model railroad that was build 50 ago. It’s big, can’t move it, third floor walk up, B29 relays to control turnouts, no money, etc. etc.
I don’t know why you are wiring your layout in blocks if you are using DCC unless you plan on puttin in train detection circuits someday…and if you do, then the electronics won’t work using common rail wiring…all train detection circuits i’ve ever ran into must have both rails gapped so that you don’t run into logic problems…Chuck
To answer your question, yes you can use common rail wiring with DCC but it is not adviseable. If you’re using more than one booster, make sure they are in phase and not grounded together. Depending on the system, you might have to make some internal switch or jumper settings - just read the manual.
It’s best to not use common rail wiring with DCC, no real advantage to it. And it’s okay to wire in blocks, makes trouble shooting a lot easier.
