With the Digitracks Zephyr dcc command station can you also control the sound of a dcc locomotive?

yep. You might not get ALL of the functions (IIRC, you need one of the newer throttles – a 400-series? --to get all of them) but the basic Zephyr station will get you pretty far.

Now, I’m not speaking from experience, just from what I’ve gathered from others here (I have the NCE system, and all of my locos are currently mute).

Even a humble Bachmann E Z Command will control 9 sounds. I am 99.9% sure all current systems will, 10 year old one may not.

The older Zephyr will control 8 to 9 sounds but the newer Zephyr will allow you to control many more unless I’m mistaken.

Yes you should be able to.

This question might be better if posted over on the “Electronics and DCC” forum.

I only have experience with QSI sound decoders and I have a Zephyr. The Zephyr will only access uo to function 8 so you can control the bell whistle or horn and a few others. However you cannot access function 9 which is the shut down function. I get around this by using either a DT 400 or UT4 throttle with my Zephyr.

The new Zephyr Xtra controls F0-F28 the original Z F0-F8 unless you connect a throttle to it that can control more. For example I can control F0F28 using my DT402 throttle connected to the Z.

I just received the new zephyr Xtra today. It controls F0-F28 via the use of ( or not using) 2 additional buttons. One button is F+10, the other F+20.
