I finally bought DCS after I read that you could run TMCC with it. When I asked the guy at the hobbie shop he told me he wouldn’t do it because it might mess the boards up in the locomotive with TMCC. He said he would just stick with running the trains on the separate systems. What I’m asking is anyone run TMCC with there DCS and did they have any problems?
You will need the TMCC base and the cable to connect it to the TIU, but I have had no problems running trains this way.
The systems don’t interfere with each other. There is no way to damage the TMCC locomotives by running them in emulation mode through DCS. The only issues with doing this is that some of the commands are not in the software emulation tool DCS uses and that you can only access TMCC commands and not Legacy.
Get the cable. Later, get the TMCC base and CAB1 or Legacy and CAB2. DCS will not give you all the TMCC features. I started with DCS and then added TMCC. Now I have upgraded to Legacy. Both are great systems but should be run separate* to get the “most” out of TMCC/Legacy and PS2 engines.
*Using each system and its controler to control the engines even if they are running on same track. Never had a problem with DCS and TMCC engines operating right infront and behind each other. Really is fun.
ENJOY!!!
Thanks for the info. I have TMCC. I was just wondering if it was worth getting the cable and using 1 system. But I would probably use both. Does anyone know if I can run the 2 systems at the sametime without side effects.
Check out the video of our running TMCC, Legacy, and DCS engines at the same time: http://www.trains.com/ctt/default.aspx?c=a&id=1151
They use completely different technologies and can not interfere with each other (at least electronically). DCS signal is on the center rail, TMCC uses radio waves with the outer rails as antenna’s.
And he did not put in a plug for the book, Command Control for Toy Trains Second Edition that can be ordered from this site.
I run both systems as DA CHIEF said, Run em seperate if you can. Since I got Legacy, it more run time on the Lionel engines but if I want to run some MTHs I just flip a switch and I’m good to go.
