Deadline photos

I’ve been looking at deadline photos, and as a railfan it broke my heart. All those little switchers.[:(] Are all engines on the deadline condemned to scrap or can they be sold and run some more under a differant name?

I’m no expert on this subject, but I kind of think it depends on what you are talking about, whether it be steam power or diesels. I have a passion for steam and always have, and I have seen black & white photos of locomotives of varying wheel arrangements in dead-lines awaiting the scrapper’s torch. And yeah, for reasons of sentimentality, it would break my heart.

I am aware that a lot of diesels, after they have seen twenty or thirty years of continual use will go through a complete rebuilding by such outfits as Morrison-Knutson.

Thanks,[:)] so they will see more service after being rebuilt?

Only if there is someone who feels there is some economic life left in them(money to be made). That requires several things: the locomotives have to be in good enough shape that it doesn’t cost more to fix them up than they will be worth, parts available (usually not a problem), and a market to sell them.

Oh and just FYI, I saw these pictures here, and there are enough of them!Just in case anyone wanted to know.
