Deadly Train derailment in Italy

Two LPG tankers derailed and exploded in the Italian town of Viareggio. just north of Pisa. The accident happened just after midnight Tuesday morning. So far there are 6 confirmed dead. One of the photographs from the scene suggests that the train belonged to Ferrovie dello Stato (Trenitalia), but I have not heard confirmation of that yet.

Just saw that on the news a moment ago. Looks pretty bad to me. apperantly the tanker hit a house. FWOOOOOOSH! It went up in smoke. I hope no one was killed or hurt badly.

Death Toll as of Tuesday Morning is now at least 13, and it is expected to go higher.

Gosh, that is really too bad. [:(]

Does anyone know if this wil interfear with TGV ops? Or is this the same line? Of course this will take as long as it needs to.

The line normally sees passenger service, but is not a High-Speed Line. The line is closed for now. As of this evening Italian newspapers are reporting the death toll as 16. The train was Trenitalia Global Logistics freight #50325 MRS from Trecate to Gricignano, Italy powered by locomotive E655-175. Reportedly there was some type of bogie failure causing the derailment.
