Can anyone tell me which dealers online will/can guarantee that you’ll get your pre-ordered locomotive? Sometimes shops don’t get all of the pre-orders from the manufacturer’s “spread too thin” batch productions.
Is there a dealer who always gets everything they’ve pre-ordered or who’s customers have pre-ordered?
No one dealer can guarantee they will get you your locomotive simply because as you said, the manufacturers may have spread distribution or production too thin. If they no gets, you no gets, and what are they going to give you then?
If you want more of a guarantee you will get your lcoomotive, try ordering direct from the manufacturer! You may end up paying MSRP {or a discounted amount, say 20% off preorder} but you stand a better bet of getting your loco if you really want it, as they will likely fill their orders before sending on to dealers.
Bigger shops who buy in bulk and can pay for them will get them next. Try them If you want to take a chance.
Like they said. No shop can “guarantee” a shipment will arrive anymore than say an auto dealership can “guarantee” the needed to fix your car part will be on the truck Thursday as it should. Way too many variables out of the control of the shops. However, a reputable shop that is in good standing with the manufacturers, regardless of the volume they generate, will be treated exactly as any business or individual who preorders from them.
When you preorder you are reserving one item and it will be made for you. No, not like the good old days when you could order a car the way you wanted it and they made the car, yes, with your name on it, but might as well be. If they have 1000 requests, they will make at least 1000 units. One of which will be sent to the HS you ordered from for you. That’s the way it is suppose to work and usually it does. Quite frankly, unless the HS does not tell you yours is in and sells it to someone else at a higher price, then blame the manufacturer for not sending it, there is equal chance to recieve the item from a HS as there is on your own direct from the manufacture.
There are no guarantees that an item will actually even be produced.
I’ve had a pending pre-order for an HO scale locomotive for over a year now and the dealer says it “may be released” sometime in 2011 – but no guarantee.
In the past, Bachmann has announced plans to produce a couple of G-scale locomotives but they never came to fruition because they never got enough pre-orders and the projects were cancelled.
There are only “2” absolute guarentees in this life, death and taxes!! Everything else is just “by chance” at best, the sooner a person accepts this fact of life the simpler all things become…

The only person in this life who thinks you are “special” is you.
IF you preorder a locomotive or car you will recieve it when its release…Its that simple—
unless
the shop you deal with doesn’t get their preorders in on time, have limited funds, little or no credit line.
You see the shop owner may not have the funds to cover all his preorders and blames the manufacturers for shortening his order and unknowing modelers believe that…
Don’t feel bad about believing such excuses because they have been use for years as cover ups.
It’s essentially the same non sequitur as “pre-owned” and “pre-boarding”. You can’t do any of them.
A car is always owned by somebody even if it’s in a junkyard. You can’t pre-board an aircraft. There are only 3 possible states. You can be waiting to board, boarding or on-board…
You can’t pre-order. You either order or you don’t. If you order prior to an item’s being manufactured, it’s still an order.
It’s also along the same lines as when you’re warned not to unfasten your seat belt until the “aircraft has come to a final halt”. There ain’t no such thing. You’re either halted or you’re moving.
I have dealt with a number of apparently reputable on-line dealers. I don’t recall a single instance where they posted a statement something like, “We guarantee you will receive any order you place with us, be it a reservation for a yet-to-be-produced model or one we claim to have in stock.” Not a one. Here’s the ticket…If you pre order and the model is produce you should get yours and that’s exactly what the op ask::
Is there a dealer who always gets everything they’ve pre-ordered or who’s customers have pre-ordered?
Other then the things I mention the dealer should get your pre order when its release since the production total is based on the pre-orders and a certain amount of overage.
Technically a shop should be able to guarantee your pre-order once the model is produce and release by the manufacturer…
