Maybe all that political effort could go into a commuter rail system for the Atlanta area?
Do politicians EVER stop squawking and effluviating all over the place?
how about changing “Battle of Atlantic” to Battle of Atlanta ? !!
Why would the Bronx Bombers want the locomotive?
Sounds like The Kennesaw Mayor and State Rep. Ehrhart are drumming up a new version Don Quixote and Sancho Panza… Georgia is a political crazy quilt of Politics,[Atlanta Statistical Area is 39 Counties] repleat with attendant political in-fighting (IMHO). ‘The Cyclorama’ is more akin to mausoleum than museum, and is only an adjunct exhibit as a visit to the Atlanta Zoo… That the “Texas” has been on exhibit for close to 100 years[ admissions are paid by public attendees]; and has suffered the ravages of time ( and slap-dash maintenance, is unbelievable) They will come closer to annexing Chattanooga,Tn into the State of Georgia before the ‘Texas’ gets moved out of Fulton County. to a home in Cobb County (Kennesaw)…
Look for a ‘redux’ of the battle over ‘The General’ when it was ‘stolen’ out of the basement of the Chattanooga Station by the L&N back in the 1960’s…
Well as an old New Jersey guy I could say “The ‘Texas’ was built in Paterson New Jersey by Danforth, Cooke and Company, so that means it’s OURS, WE built it, and WE want it BACK!”
Well that ain’t gonna happen, so let me say where it REALLY belongs is on the main line again, smokin’ hot and ready to roll! A real, living “Civil War Ghost.”
I second that motion.
I agree with Wayne. If it is left in Atlanta in another 75 years it will be a coroded piece of junk. Restore it and run it so people can do instead of watching it rust away.
Thank you gentlemen! I’d bet those restoration geniuses at the Strasburg Railroad would LOVE to get their hands on “Texas” and bring her back to life.
The Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History is a top notch organization and is the best place for the Texas.
What about moving her to the lobby of the VA clinic in Toledo.
She could be displayed along with the Congressional Medal of Honor presented by the family of Wilson W Brown. Medal was Awarded in September of 1863.
As a former resident of the south I continue to subscribe to the old Johnny Reb adage, “Hell no, I ain’t forgettin’”.
Are these guys wanting to start the war all over again over a locomotive?
It may interest all of you to know that the Texas AND the Cyclorama painting are moving to the Atlanta History Center in the Buckhead area in 2016. They both will be housed in a new state-of-the-art museum environment and out of the Grant Park Zoo ‘mausoleum’. I think most would like the 2 locomotives to be together, but that ain’t happenin’. Too bad about scrapping the Yonah, and who knows what happened to the William R. Smith.
