Decal color

Hello old friends and newbies!!! Been a while since I worked on my layout.
I’ve got a Mikado and a Hudson that need decals. Going for the B&O. I just found a bunch of Champ decals in B&O gold dulux real cheap at a yard sale. (+ 25 sets of Kadee #5’s for $10!!!)

Are the dulux gold sets appropriate for a Hudson and Mikado??? Basic black paint scheme.

Great to see all the new talent on WPF!!! All you guys ROCK!! That’s why I love this hobby sooooooo much!!!

Tom

Welcome back.

Can’t help with the decals, don’t have any known colored photos of B&O steam locos.

Yes, there are quite a few new, very talanted folks signing on almost daily.

Good to have you back.

Have fun,

Richard

Tom:

The dulux decals are correct for B&O steam from 1943 on. Prior to that, B&O lettered locomotives with gold leaf 8" high letters. 1943 on, they used 5" tall dulux paint. The Champ set includes both heights of lettering, so you’ll want to use the slightly smaller.

Tom,

I use Microscale’s B&O dulux steam locomotive decals but the Champ decals are ok. In this pic the tender decal is Microscale, and the caboose decal is Champ. Both are custom painted brass models. -Stan Q4 tender and caboose

Thanks guys! I was hoping these would be correct.

Greg-Thanks for the tip on letter size. I was wondering why the sets had 2 different size letters.

I also bought a couple sets that are a greyish/black color??? Any idea what these would work for??

At $1/set I just bought them for the heck of it.

Those are typically used on the light graycovered hoppers.

Those sound like the passenger sets intended for the Cincinnatian, which were printed in Aluminum to match the prototype.
