Hi all,
I want to recreate the American Orient Express.
I can not wait till Rivarossi starts remanufacturing them, if they ever do.
I’m pretty sure of my abilities to paint undecorated cars appropriately, but the crecent logo is a big problem.
I tried using the plastic emblem from one of my Orient Express cars, dipping in gold, and brushing, but the detail is soooo small, that I can not get a recognizable impression.
Does any one know how good the kits are for computer decal and printing are. Or can you suggest another method.
Your input is greatly appreciated.
I have a Testors kit for printing decals. It gives me clear film that I can print on. I’ve had mixed results so far…but I’ve not used it too much. I’d say that it’s ok but would depend on your computer’s printer, and what you use to create the image you’re trying to print.
I’ve got a plain HP Inkjet printer (722C) and I used an off-brand sheet of decal paper. It took a while to get the technique down, but I’m very happy with the results. One warning is that you can’t print white, so if you want a white background, you will either have to use white-backed decal paper (as opposed to clear) or paint the car surface white and apply the decal over it.
This is the front of a Bowser PCC car. The number decals were applied straight to the nice smooth, spray-painted surface. The “Downtown” destination board was printed in black with the letters left clear, and then applied to a white spot painted with cheap acrylic. I think the destination board would have looked better if I’d used either a better quality paint or applied it with a spray to get it smoother.
