Decal removal, revisited

Regarding my earlier request for decal removers, railphotog brought up a good

point…what I want to remove is probably not a decal but paint. I’ve ordered

a Bachmann 2-8-0 Consolidated steam engine and want to remove the Rock

Island logo and put something else on.

Can railphotog or anyone else give me some ideas on how to remove painted

road logos without damaging the unit?

Thanks to all who answered my post yesterday.

Pete

To remove the logos/lettering on my 2 Bachmann Consols, I used a cotton swab soaked with brake fluid, and gentle rubbing. Kill the brake fluid action with isopropyl alcohol when you’ve got the lettering off, and before you go through the base color.

Could you explain this a little better? I use Isopropyl alcohol to remove lettering and paint so I can’t see how this would work. Also. Brake fluid is alcohol based so I would think plain water would also work to neutralize it
