Decal Sheet Challenge

I have one for any eagle-eyed BN modelers out there. I have purchased an 87-25 sheet for a project. The one problem I have is I can’t read the white type below the white numbers on black backgrounds. (Even with my glasses on, I have vision quirks that cause problems at points.)
From looking at this SW1 BN engine photo (http://www.rr-fallenflags.org/bn/bn0089jpb.jpg) there is the “Riding Footboards Is Prohibited” (I think) text. For the use that the SW1 will be used for, I would like to put that same warning on the engine. I presume at least one of the blocks of text says something similar. I would like to know, if possible, which block it is.
Thank you for any assistance the forums can provide.

Frrykid,

I’m gathering, from your description, that you are having, a hard time finding, where they are on the decal sheet? Try a art store and look for clear color acetate, green, blue ,red, yellow and lay it over the decal sheet, you should be able to see them that way. I’ve done it a few times. I am only assuming that is your problem though. [:)]

Yes, that is part of it. The white print on the blue backed decal paper is, at least for me, quite hard to read. When I print my own small format white decals (think dimensional data), I have to get creative so that I can see where the lettering is on the sheet. (Usually that involves putting a box around the type.)

Unfortunately, I don’t have any sort of art store in my neck of the woods. (About the only think I have direct access to is an office supply store and I don’t know if they would be able to get anything like that.) I also couldn’t find any sheets of acetate online. (Of course, I could very well not be searching in the right places.)

Frrykid,

I would give that office supply a shot, If they don’t have it, maybe they know of a place that does. It is not very thick. I’m pretty sure, that would work for you…The kind I am speaking of come’s in a roll. Good Luck! Maybe try, colored plastic film ? In your search.

Frrykid,

How about, this?

Frrykid,

I can’t get it to link, but I searched for,Colored Transparency Film, got many sources, one of them showing, the colored, rolls and sheets, I was referring to

Why not have a young one w/ some sharp eyes read it for you. Even held up to a bright bulb to allow light to pass through that pale blue paper can help. Had to do this w/ diesel data sheet, and then I thought my eyes were not too bad.

I know this was covered on the forum previously, the problem being where to cut the decals, especially Microscale, who turn lettering sideways on the same sheet.

It was suggested to soak the back of the sheet with black magic marker until the white lettering is visible. I tried it and it works. No, it doesn’t affect the decals.

Nice idea, but I don’t know anyone who I would trust to do that.

I was planning to stop at the building where the store in located for a different part of the project so I will ask if they can get something that will work.

If I can’t find the transparency film, I will get the marker and do that.

Eureka!!
It took a little bit of work with the Sharpie, but I did get the marker trick to work and find the information that I was looking for.
I will have to remember this for the next time I print white decals.
Thank you for all the assistance.
