Can anyone suggest the best way to decal over window openings ? I want to put a solid decal stripe over and around windows on a passenger car.
Normally you would remove the window glazing from the car - depending on the maker, it may be a separate piece or may be part of the roof - and then do the decaling. I would do them as one long stripe and then after using Solvaset or something similar to snuggle the stripes down, trim the decals so (depending on your prototype) they end just at the edge of the window, or trim them a little longer and use Solvaset to fold them inside the car. Then after applying flat finish spray to seal the decals in, replace the glazing. That’s a good time to add passengers too, while the car is open.
Keep in mind that decals will not stick to bare plastic. Over time they will flake off. To “paint” clear windows simply dip them into Future Floor finish and let dry. Once dry simply decal over them. Do not be allarmed when the Future clouds up. It will clear back up once the decal dries.
To decal over a windo I would first fill in the window with sheet styrene teh same thickness as the car side. Then paint the area the same colour as the rest of the car then decal. Use a setting solution to fix the decal and finish yp with a flat or gloss finish.
Thanks for the replies. The windows will be removed from the car and decal will go around the windows. I should have said around instead over windows. I’m trying to get a “solid” stripe just wider than the windows the lenght of the car.
If you have an airbrush at your disposal, I would recommend masking and paint rather than decals. You would have better overall results.
