December 2013 Issue problems

Has anyone, besides my self experienced any problems with the December 2013 issue that just arrived. In my issue, pages 19 thru 26 are missing and pages 27 thru 34 are repeated twice. I have contated ModelRailroader and hopefully will receive a new correct issue.

Someone posted they samething in another topic, maybe shipping will be delayed for some of us as they fix the problem, I haven’t got mine yet, though I live in Hawaii, so everything takes a little longer to be shipped here.

My pages, are OK, but I had five,Rush! Holiday Gift Order, cards, fall out of the center. [(-D]

Yeah; I have the same thing. Going to call customer service tomorrow. Got the magazine Thursday, too late to make the call and I was away Friday and forgot about it. Pages 19 to 26 are missing and 27 to 34 printed twice as well as their companion pages at the rear of the mag, pages 63 to 74 with 75 to 83 missing. Thought it was a one copy fluke, but now i’m happy it wasn’t just mine.

My problem is with the website. I can not get the review of the BLI Y6b

Don’t worry about the website. Obama’s team is working on it.

I think it was mentioned on these forums a few years ago that there are several locations throughout the country where Model Railroader is printed by contractors, and the missing pages may originate from one of those. My copy here in Arizona has all the pages.

The Magazine is printed,by Quad Graphic’s, in Wis. the Mags. are assembled, put together and stapled,by subcontractor’s,also put the USPS mailing sticker on them. I used to pick up trailer loads of Mags.,from them,on pallets, shrink wrapped, they were just the pages, going to different parts of the country,by Intermodal trains,in my case,it was CSXI. Quad Graphic’s also prints, Playboy and a few others. You could always find centerfolds, from the Mags. laying around in shipping, to view. [:P]

The copy delivered to the LION is just fine… EXCEPT for that sill green popup at the bottom of each page! [(-D][swg][xx(]

You the man.

If you call the customer service number or otherwise contact Kalmach I am confident everything will be resolved to your satisfaction. A few years ago I received an issue with a variety of color smears on some pages, and then-editor Terry Thompson asked me to mail the issue to him so it could be shown to the printer. I mailed it at my expense but then saw that my subscription had been extended a month … I cannot promise that but I am sure Kalmbach will make it right

I received My MR on Saturday and took it to the restaurant Sunday morning to look it over. As I was reading it, a woman told me I had dropped something. I looked down at the floor near the table and it was an MR re-newal card. I folded it up and put it in my pocket. After I went to pay out, the cashier noted that I had dropped something as I was leaving. You guessed, it… Another of those little renwal cards.

Later, on Sunday evening, the cats were scurrying about and my wife and I wondered what all the commotion was about and one had a roll of toilet paper chewing it up and the other was alternately chasing and pouncing on another of those post card renewals. #$&^*@!

I went to my MR and tore all the stuck in cards and heavy paper inserts out of the thing and trash canned 'em.

Mine came and is fine. Guys and moderators, can we please keep the politics out of our forums. It almost always gets ugly eventually no matter what our political views might be and the hobby is about relaxation and creativity after all.

Ops sessions discussion I’ve been attending have lately become more political and quite frankly it’s a drag. Even if they’re sometimes funny, it causes tension and (mostly unspoken) ill feelings.

There are plenty of online forums for political discussions where your opinion and beliefs might actually make a difference. Here, they rather rudely plunge us back into the real world. The only real world I would enjoy here is prototype forum(s).

Ok, maybe I’m the drag here, but I’d rather be a drag freight!

Jus’ sayin’,

Jim

My December MRR came garbled like some others have described. The worst of it is that I got only one page of the review on the new BLI Y6b. Since reading reviews on new steam locos is the absolute high point of my satisfaction with the mag with layout related articles a close second, I was, as our British cousins say, a bit chuffed!

I have this happen before, just call Customer Service and they’ll get you another copy.

Checked mine - which I had yet to crack open, because I got my digital copy a while ago and already finished reading it before the paper copy came. Mine’s all there, though the pages in question look a little iffy in mine - they don;t seem to be joined preciesely at the center as some of the whitespace between the halves shows in the center.

It’s an assembly problem at the binding step, bet someone out there has duplicates of the pages you have missing and is missing the ones you have duplicated.

ANd lucky people, I only got TWO holiday gift cards!

My December MR arrived in good order - no problem except for the usual absence of any coverage of anything Japanese…

Quick cure for blow-ins (the industry term for those loose cards in a magazine, or little ads in your electric and phone bills.) Hold magazine by upper left corner and shake, with a vigorous up/down motion. An alternate is to leaf through (like ruffling a poker deck,) stopping at each hard spot to remove the offending object. The latter takes care of the stapled in cards and the occasional stiff page of advertising material.

I called customer service this morning and a new copy is going to be sent to me. Talked with a very pleasant lady at MR.

Hi Joe. I HAVE been living under my layout!

I got the joke but it’s just so easy for things to go south in threads as soon as this stuff gets uttered. Just my opinion maybe not others. I’ve bailed from 3 other forums because it just got continually ugly and no fun anymore. I’m not a political prude or anything, it’s just so easy for threads to go south soon after. Several threads on this forum were pulled after a time in the past so there’s precedence.

Back to magazine discussion. By the way, the official term for the cards in the magazine are “blow cards”. They’re blown into flipping pages by a machine that…blows.

Peace and out,

Jim

I haven’t received mine yet, so I am guessing they are fixing the problem and reprinting, or they already have, and it is in route.
