Mornin’ guys and gals. Blustery across the Mountain State. Will have to go outside and gather trash cans and decorations when the sun comes up.
Wifey wanted her North Pole Village up, so that’s how I spent yesterday. As this was a new version, struggled with the wiring and placement of structures. Hope to finish by noon.
24 Shopping Days until Christmas ----- don’t hate me, lol
34F this morning 42F later with Sun
Tested my new Polar Express LionChief 2.0 and it operates like it should. So the new Christmas Village under the tree should be very cool.
MOST of the downstairs is clean, need to vacuum the family room and Grandma’s room and that’ll be done. Hope to move furniture around to prep for tree and Christmas decorations.
Hope to have the Princess over for dinner as this is her day off, maybe steaks on the barbie…
I’ve started a new, exciting, fun-filled project! Cleaning out the attic. Hoo boy.
Took a good look a few days ago and there’s stuff up there we haven’t touched in the 35 years since we moved here. That being the case out it all goes, I’m not even going to look at it twice. However, like eating an elephant it’s got to be done one bite at a time, so I did the first pull Tuesday and made a dump run yesterday. Back up to the attic again today for another pull and another “What did we keep THIS for?” session.
Going threw it is 1/2 the fun. Find a thrift style store for anything good ( like Salvation Army, Goodwill etc, etc, etc. ) or little cool for yard sale but who knows. Good way to waste a Saturday. You may even get someone towards the end offer you something for everything left, might even at the beginning who know.
I just hate hearing someone not even looking and taking it to the dump where someone else might get use out of it.
But have been there done that except took it too goodwill.
Hey all we started out at 31* this a.m. going to 51* today.
Wife wants to go thrift store shopping today. Not my most favorite thing to do thou.
I keep having DR. appointments or having to go here or there and not getting done what I need to get done in the garage. ( insulation to protect her plants and give me a warm place to work on my trains. )
The thought crossed my mind but if I start going through it I’ll NEVER get through it! However I AM keeping an eye out for charity thrift store donation candidates, Lady Firestorm says keep an eye out for glass ware, the local thrift shops always seem to be interested.
But so far, just useless unused in decades odds n’ ends.
You see, earlier this year we helped a friend clean out her deceased mother’s house and Mom was kind of a semi-hoarder. She NEVER threw anything out although it was nicely boxed and containered. What a pain, and we learned from the example. Don’t leave a mess for others to clean up. We lost track of how many times we heard our friend’s outburst: “God-**** it, MOM!”
And that was ONE clean out, we’ve helped in three others over the past few years. Although I’m not planning on “checking out” anytime soon I sure had the truism proved to me multiple times: No matter what you’ve got, you can’t take it with you.
Flint - Smokey can be the [angel] on one shoulder, and I’ll be the [}:)] on the other side. Git yourself a 8-10 yard roll-off dumpster, place it strategically under a window, and pitch-pitch-pitch…
I’m split on both sides of this debate! Are you 100% sure there’s no trains hidden up there? How will you know for sure unless you check?
Then again… you’re so right, at some point it’s just too much to sort everything. And maybe, not knowing makes it easier to part with the things you really don’t need. If you don’t know what you’re getting rid of, you can’t be sad to see it go, I suppose.
Just noticed that it is a new month. I’m still lurking here, just not active with trains at the moment. Still splitting time between Michigan and Missouri.
On top of my projects going in two states, my uncle passed a few weeks ago. As his estate is settled, I will be involved in cleaning out his house. My sister lives farther away, and she and her husband really can’t make the trip to help. Going to be a busy winter.
Looks like I’ll be getting my ‘train fix’ through your posts. So, thanks in advance.
Mornin’ guys and gals. Sunny and 42 along the Patterson Creek cut-off. Sweeping up the mess I made in garage stall #2 today, and changing out the propane tank in the grill. Might get around to setting up the Gingerbread Jct set on the NPV.
Hey everyone, I got an e-mail from Ellie (Leverettrailfan) this morning which she’s asked me to pass along. Her computer’s had a hard crash so she’ll be “off the air” for a time until the problem’s resolved. So don’t worry about her “silence,” she’s fine and will return when she can.
I had a BOAT up there![(-D] People think you’re lying when you say you had a boat in your attic! I just tell them it beats having bat’s in your belfry! [(-D]
Years back I knew a local detective lieutenant who told me when he was a young patrolman he got a call to “Check on an old lady who says she’s got a cannon in the attic. It’s probably an old shotgun or something like that.”
Well, she DID have a cannon in the attic! A French 37mm Hotchkiss of WW1 vintage her late husband managed to “souvenir” from somewhere. “I don’t know how they got it up there” he told me, “We had a hell of a time getting it down!” The chief called the West Point Museum (about an hour’s drive away) to see if they wanted it and they said “Sure!” So that’s where it wound up.
Got my PC a new hard drive and it is working again, this one is solid state and should last longer and so far seem nice now that I got most everything working again. So I know what Ellie (Leverettrailfan) is dealing with. [Y]
Sold the old 2003 Rusty Ranger plow truck this week and ordered a new plow for the Gator 590i. She started leaking water and I am not wanting to work on these things anymore since the broken ankle thing. Besides I can get rid of the INS, and Plates as well as all the other overhead that goes with the extra truck. It did serve me well, I thought I would have it maybe 2 years and it made 5 years and 7 months, all of that miles and salt kept from the Colorado, so it was a good thing. FB Markplace is a real PITA but it got 3,400 looks and I had so many hits I could not keep up. Gone now and would you know,I left the garage door opener in the thing. [banghead][banghead][banghead] I guess I need to reset all the other ones now. Boy it sucks to get old and four garage doors with openers don’t help. [:O]
Nothing on the train front at the moment.
Bout it from The North Bluff above Marseilles. [;)]
Mornin’ guys and gals. Sunny and 15. It actually didn’t feel that cold when I took FifeMax out. Excitement building as Fifepup and his bride are coming to the mountains tonight. May not be posting much this week…
Did get the Gingerbread Junction set up and running, along with the matching Mrs. Claus chasing gon, and the Baking mint boxcar. So, NPV is finished. [yeah] Ms. Kelly very happy with this new edition. May very well be the prettiest tree/garden combo we’ve ever displayed. Will share as the month moves along.
Did spend weekend at the Chapter caboose, as the WMSR ran it’s PE trains. Fun to see all the families in their matching pj’s. Do need some [angel] for one of our members, Tom, who begins his battle against the Big C today.
KRM - You still have all those other fun “toys”…[oX)] Still running that layout from time to time?
