What would the best decoder to install AC4400
What brand of AC4400? Is it DCC ready? More details about your engine are necessary.
If it’s an Athearn, they recommend a quick-plug MRC decoder. MRC’s decoder’s are J-U-N-K-! [xx(][xx(]
Maybe a DH123D?
It’s a athearn AC44OO LOCO. THANK YOU
No it’s not dcc ready.
no it’s not dcc ready. thank you
Any decoder with a wiring harness such as a TCS, Digitrax, Lenz, NCE or other brand that has a harness instead of being a direct plug-n-play type would be okay for this engine. Check web sites such as Tony’s Train Exchange, Loy’s Toys, or Litchfield Station for a suitable solder-in decoder. Motor control and one headlight function is all you will need.
This is what I use.
Thank you for the information.
If it’s a Blue box, you will have to isolate the motor and do some soldering and as mentioned, any basic decoder with an open wire harness will do. If it’s an older Genesis, then an Atlas 342 is a drop-in replacement for the existing board. The MRC 1634 is also a drop-in replacement and has sound.
