Decoder for Bachmann Spectrum 2-6-6-2 (#82652) N scale

Anyone put a decoder in this N-scale loco? If so, which one did you use. There’s not a lot of space available. Any help would be appreciated!

Hi Glen, the decoder that has been recommended by Litchfield Station for just motor and lights (not sound) is the Lenz Silver MP. I just received my loco as well and asked the same question. I trust their recommendation. They also offer a special Tsunami sound kit for $125.00.

Do it right the first time. Install a tsunami in there…nothing else.

I just took advantage of the Micro-Mark sale and got one of the 2-6-6-2’s last week. I installed a Digitrax DH-123 yesterday and the engine runs fine. It only took about 3 minutes to install.

I think there’s enough room for a Tsunami and I’ll install one of those sound decoders when I get another one. When I install a Tsunami I remove everything that Bachmann has in the tender and hard-wire it to the Bachmann plugs. It’s easy and getting rid of the original circuit board provides a lot of extra room. I’ve done several Bachmann Decapods and a P2K 0-6-0 that way.

Thanks Dave, I would love to put a Tsunami in. I guess I should have said this is an N scale Bachmann. Will a Tsunami still fit? If so, where can I get a schematic for the wiring?

Thanks again for all your responses.

Ah…this changes things. The only thing that would really work, and work well would be the LokSound Micro decoder. Its a bit more pricey, but it is made for N scale and would fit with no issues.

Thanks David. The Loksound Micro sounds perfect. (Pun intended!) I’ll put one in as soon as I have a bit more $$$!

I’ll let you know how it works out.

Itll cost you a few more bucks, but itll be worth it.
