Decoder in Spectrum Climax ??? HOW

Time to go DCC. I have the Climax with no directions for adding a decoder. Which decoder and what special issues are involved other than just plugging it in? This will be my first instalation and I would like sucess before I try some harder projects like my old brass.

You might try looking at the instructions/parts list that came with the model. On the last of four pages it shows the DCC socket that is in the tender, and how to remove the dummy plug so you can install a DCC decoder.

Hi Bob, that is what I thought but such pages were not there. My LHS said that happens a lot. Seeing I never did this before, I decided I needed some advice from someone who has done it some.

Art, there is an installation example in the Climax on the TCS web site.

It looks like the key is to get a small decoder.

Thanks Simon. I could have wasted weeks without that help. Especially the indication that the Climax has two capacitors.

Art, I have purchased several of the MC-2 decoders, you can get them in a 5 pack at a good price from www.litchfieldstation.com It is a great decoder and fits the tightest of spaces. It also has the wonderful goof proof TCS warranty, which I have availed myself of once when I fried one getting it installed in my son’s Thomas the Tank.
