i’m installing a lenz decoder in my 2-8-0 N spec loco.
what is the best way to insulate 2 wires together. I’m working with
I thnk are 30gauge wires to the front head light. I have the rest of the loco
already hard wired.

It’s not clear to me what you are asking – what do you mean “insulate two wires together?” Are they bare wires that need to be insulated, or do you mean that you just want to make them into one. If the latter, use heat shrink tubing. If you mean that you want to connect two wires to the same point on your decoder, it would help to know what type of decoder you’re using, by model number, not just manufacturer.
Heat-shrink tubing, but it is kinda hard for wire that small.
there is also something called “liquid electrical tape” which is brushed on.
In a pinch try my favorite technique the “blob of tacky glue method” quick & easy
If the wire still has the insulation on it, vinyl cement would work great. VLP makes some in clear.

I’m a little confused as to what you’re attempting to accomplish also. I’ve installed a Lenz 5021W into an N scale Spectrum Connie. For the front (and only) lightboard, I removed the existing wires and soldered the white and blue wires from the decoder to the lightboard’s solder pads. I used Kapton tape to isolate the entire “decoder bed”, but that’s it. The wires, unless you’ve stripped them or somesuch, are already insulated from one another. You could use shrink tubing on them if you want to “bundle” them together, only necessary if you put the “wired” end of the decoder towards the cab. Otherwise, the lighting wires are what, 1/2" long?

I installed a soundtraxx dsd-090 into a bachmann 2-8-0. I soldered the wires and insulated them with shrink tube. It was no easy task. I still havent figured out how I am going to put the coal load back on the tender but i could probably post some pictures if you want.

Yaa!! I installed the Lenz LE0521w and everything is working.
I decided to solder the lamp wires directly to the light board.
worked like a charm. Thanks for your help everyone.
