Decoder with poor memory......

I have a problem with a decoder which for no apparent reasons forgets the adress it’s been programmed with to come back to its original 03 adress.Originally it took two trials to program its new adress. Then the loco(Kato “N” SD70 with Digitrax decoder) was put to use and worked just fine for a while, until in the middle of an operating session(while paired with a similar engine),it stopped running on its own.Putting it on the club’s programming setup,we discovered it had come back to its original adress by itself. This situation has occured twice so far.Could it be a programming flaw or is it simply a defective decoder?Any hint would be helpful…Thanks.

What model decoder is it? If it is a newer Series 3 type (123, 143, or 163), try a factory reset - program CV08 to a value of 8. Then put in the correct address and whatever else you had set. If it still loses its mind, it’s defective and you’ll have to contact Digitrax for a replacement.

I have heard of this problem, though I have never experienced it. Reportedly, there is a bad batch of Series 3, Digitrax decoders out there. I don’t know the batch number or were to look for it on the decoders. The problem seems to be confined to the DH123 and DH163 decoders. It a factory reset, CV008 set to 008, doesn’t cure the problem, contact Digitrax and exchange the decoder.
