To all Union Pacific fans, people with Big Boy in their screen names, and anyone else who cares about our beloved 4-8-8-4s:
Go out and defend the honor of the Big Boy on the “Big Boy vs. Allegheny”; those are fighting words thread. I just posted a massive post there. Go out and help me and others support the true largest locomotive of all time.
An Allegheny, cringe is a 2-6-6-6 mallet type loco. Like I said earlier, they were used in low speed coal drags on the C&O. By reading all the other posts in that thread, I must clearly say that BIG BOY’S RULE!!! A true UP fan would think so!!!
Dear 4884bigboy,
Just one little thing: the Allegheny type locomotives were all simple. You may be thinking of some of the N&W’s superior mallets[:)][:D][8D][^].
Dear Big_Boy_4005,
Yes, I am talking to you[;)]. Allegheny is a type of wheel arangement, 2-6-6-6, that was owned by the C&O and the Virginian. Furthermore, the two railroads’ Allegheny type locomotives were practically identical. The Allegheny locomotives had some dimensions by which the supporters of Allegheny superiority say they were larger. However, our beloved Big Boys have many more attributes which make them the largest locomotives of all time. I just wrote a large posting at the “Big Boy vs. Allegheny”; those are fighting words thread.
Dear NTDM,
What the heck are you talking about?[?]
The following is a quote from the “Those are fighting words” discussion group posted by HighIron2003ra
"I am going to say that there are many good points for both engines. However I post a link here to help look at it from the Alley’s point of view. It will save having a mass of large sheets on this forum.
