What is the recommended degreaser safe for plastic parts? Something in a liquid I can dip q-tips in if that’s possible. I have a Lowes and some auto parts stores in town. Thanks.
Naptha (lighter fluid usually sold by Ronson) is a great cleaner and degreaser. It is safe on all plastics and paints. It evaporates quickly, and leaves no residue. I use it to clean everything.

Is that the same thing they sell at Lowes for thinning oil based paints or our you just saying good old lighter fluid in the yellow bottle?
The lighter fluid in the yellow bottle is naptha, and can be bought in quart and gallon cans at most hardware stores. Make sure it says Naptha on the can, and is not some other product. I would guess that paint thinners would soften the paint on our trains, but naptha definitely will not. I have used it on painted plastic and metal trains and can attest to that fact.
