Demonstration of Keep-Alive Digital Command Controler decoder in an HO scale short wheel base locomotive

I run on a club layout (DC and DCC swappable) with power routing switches. I had brought a second hand Proto GP7 with a TCS Decoder and Keep Alive module. If you turned the power off to the track the loco was on, it wanted to run away in whatever direction it last was moving. This happened whether the layout was in DC or DCC mode. Eventually this drove me mad and I cut the wires to the capacitor!

@Mr. Barrett - Yeah, I’d probably not use power-routing with DCC. Not needed with DCC as you can instruct each locomotive to sit where you leave it. As you discovered, if you turn off the power, you also turn off the control! Unfortunately locomotives sometimes get out of control on the prototype.
