Denver RTD Strike?

I heard that RTD went out on strike in Denver. How is traffic? Somehow this did not make the same news as the New York strike.

Light rail has not moved in 36 hours.

Traffic is not that bad. Opening day at the ballpark did make a mess out of traffic yesterday. The parking lot operators are making a killing in downtown Denver and the rates have jumped.

so what makes headlines in NY barely rates a yawn if it happens in Denver

As was pointed out in the Denver news media yesterday, the percentage of people using mass transit is considerably less than the major burgs on the east and west coasts. Therefore: less impact. In addition, half the busses in Denver are still running because of state insistance that there be a 50:50 mix of in-house union employees and contract operators that lessened the impact (especially for the disabled)…ironically the union leadership wanted the rank & file to approve the contract offer.

Does Denver have any commuter rail lines ?

As in heavy rail? - 4 to be in service by 2010 (FasTracks) … will be interesting to see the state try to split that up.
