Good morning, everyone! Mookie, don’t worry about
what your fur looks like this morning. Glad you are
here with us. For breakfast this morning, we will have:
bacon
sausage
biscuits and gravy
oatmeal
toast
Cheerios (especially for Matt & us folks who need to watch
the cholesterol)
fried potatoes
See someone turned on the trains. Good. Bergie, aren’t
you staying for a bit of breakfast? Next time you come in,
Bergie, bring the new guys in with you.

Cherokee woman, I’ve been making the cornmeal mush, which is why I haven’t been in the diner for breakfast. It is great. I used to have to ditch a lot of leftover cornbread, so this is a good alternative. Thanks for the recipe.
Mookie, you’re right: fish does sound good for today. So fish sandwiches
it is, with plenty of tarter sauce. There’ll also be butterfly shrimp with
plenty of seafood sauce for those who don’t like tarter sauce. And of
course, what’s seafood without french fries?!?!?!
And Ifish, don’t worry: we do not eat Ifish or mudchickens in THIS diner.
Never have, never will.
Fish sounds great, especially with some good crispy fries and rice krispie treats to top it all off. Joe - your secret is safe with us. They won’t last long enough for anyone to analyze…
Best line I ever heard about a burger concerned White Castle’s sliders: “You can’t buy 'em–you just rent 'em for a couple of hours!”
Having said that, I’ll submit two nominations for best burger:
–broiled: Portillo’s–they’re a hot dog joint, but they have delicious burgers with fre***oppings, too.
–grilled: Hamburger Heaven, in Elmhurst. A very traditional drive-in, where you walk up, order, wait while it’s prepared, then take it back to your car (bike, in my case) or a picnic table. The traditional double-decker, with its special, secret sauce, is my favorite (I’ve foregone the cheese this past season; don’t miss it too much). My daughter likes their pizzaburger.
I have returned from New Mexico. The Chief left LA about three hours late and only got down to minus two and a half at Chicago. I missed MC’s note that he might be at La Junta and due to the later hour I had dozed off, otherwise I would have stepped off the train there for a smoke break. I am disappointed that I missed our resident track and MOW expert. He had sent me a station by station guide on things to watch for from Kansas to New Mexico that made the trip that more interesting.
I got a ton of pictures of Transcon action at Belen and up on the desert about 15 miles to the (railroad) west. In just a little more than two hours I saw at least 8 east and 6 west, with pool power from just about everybody.
I see that I missed some Forum excitment. Still have a lot of catching up to do, but will add more over our evening meal.
I’m going to have to put ina nomination for best burger here as well. For those who have been to the Denver area, we have a chain called Good TImes, and I have got to say, the “Big Daddy” (two patties, bacon, swiss and american cheese and special sauce) one of the best burgers EVER!
