I want to give a huge thank you to Trains.com personnel for making this forum available to users such as myself. It was suggested to me a few posts back to purchase a certain publication. While I will make that purchase, nothing in print today can substitute for the information found in this forum. Also a huge thank you to anyone who has ever participated and posted here. ALL of your experiences and opinions are hugely important in helping me make informed decisions.
I have started backwards, reading all of the posts since July of 2003 going forward. I have 280 more pages to read yet. A book will you give you ONE opinion (the author’s). Here, I can get 10 or more, from just as experienced if not more so, modelers. Heck, just in the span of 3 months back in 2003, I basically answered my own questions as to subroaded width, track spacing, bench height, etc. Again, a big thank you guys.
I too have found this forum to be a wealth of knowledge. I’ve learned more since I joined here then in all the years before. I’d like to join you in thanking all of the fine modelers for sharing all of their experience and knowledge. Thank you all.
I must heartily agree. I just started participating about a month ago and I have developed (and continue to develop) a wealth of knowledge here which has allowed me to make some great educated decisions. This is particularly important for me starting a new layout. Thank you to everyone and let’s keep the help syetem going. BTW, I have spent the past 2 weeks preparing my layout room and have already incorporated some ideas from this site (walls are painted sky blue). In a few weeks I will be ordering lumber and foam for benchwork and again I will be using ideas from this site (you get the idea).
When I found this forum a couple of months ago, my idea of a bigger layout meant a bigger train board. But now, around the wall, peninsula, ‘G’ shapes, yards, industries, DCC, modeling eras, the list goes on. And the best thing is you all make it sound like something I can acutally do.
Thanks to everyone who has offered advice, and thanks for your patience in answering the same questions over and over again.
I agree with you all! This is a great place to ask questions and get an answer that is worth reading! I was a member of another forum and lets just say that personalities got in the way of getting decent answer. There was alot of bashing going on. Here here to MRM and Trains.com for an excelent forum!!!
I am really glad to see a new member starting the form in that way. That is exactly what I did when I first came here. I think it took me about three weeks to read through it all. If everyone did this we wouldn’t get so many duplicate threads, so my hat is off to a wonderful new member [bow]
