Desert Wind Diorama

Hey Gang-

Started a diorama this week. I wanted to do a diorama to photograph, and display a few of my pieces of rolling stock. I read a few books, and decided on a desert motif. The scenery interests me, and it think it’s a good starting point for my skills.

The diorama is 20"x54" on 2" foam insulation. I carved out the foam with a bread knife, xacto and razor saw. I then glued them together with high strength wood glue (what my grandpa used to use). After it set for two days, I blended the seams and tried to sand everything smooth. I used plaster cloth from WS to cover the foam. I’m not entirely happy with the plaster cloth, as I had trouble blending the suggested %50 overlap. I couldn’t sand that out. A trip to Home Depot today resulted in some spackle to cover the seams, and any gaps I found. Some Behr indoor/outdoor flat enamel in “Kenyan Sand” is the base coat. It’s currently drying, and awaiting a few more coats.

Looks pretty good so far. I tried to post the picture on the site but could not do it.
