Deshler, Fostoria, and Bucyrus, Ohio (9/28/19 and 9/30/19)

So this past Saturday, I headed up to Deshler for the afternoon and then headed east to Fostoria for dinner and the evening at the park. On Monday, I made another trip to my hometown of Bucyrus, although that wasn’t intended as a railfanning trip.

As I arrived in Deshler, an eastbound mixed freight was crossing over from track 1 to the southwest transfer track to turn south. I drove past the park to wait for it at the crossing. Once it cleared, I circled back around to the park, seeing a westbound train approaching and the signals lined up for an eastbound.

As I parked the Jeep, I heard the westbound intermodal train approaching. With no time to grab my tripod, I started recording. As the rear of the intermodal disappeared from sight, and eastbound empty hopper train accelerated past.

Shortly after the empty hopper train disappeared, two locomotives running light came north and stopped short of the crossing before heading back south. Again, I didn’t have a chance to get the tripod.

As you know from watching the Deshler cam, there is rarely a dearth of action there. Things may quiet down for an hour or two, but the next thing you know you’ll have three trains at once.

I’m sure I’ll be back down there next summer. In the meantime, the cam is usually up on the ol’ home computer.

Yeah, I often have the cam up. It’s actually up at the moment on my laptop. But, nothing beats actually going out railfanning. Thankfully had good weather the past few days. Only rain I ran into was heading home from Fostoria from about Carey to Upper Sandusky. Monday was clear when I went up to Bucyrus. Yesterday (Wednesday) was clear when I went down to Thurmond, West Virginia (videos with pics coming of that).
