Design for new London subway trains revealed

Apparently Londoners don’t mind the lengthwise ailse-facing seats that have been so problematic on the CTA’s newest rapid transit cars…

Ooh I like the exterior! Those seats need to be in rows, though.

If the state of the design art is to copy a cracker box…it’s radical.
Compared to some of the futuristic light rail designs of late, its an old design with new clothes. The transverse seating treats passengers like a coat rack.
I am underwhelmed. Even the Art Deco designs like the Brill Bullets had more style, more panache than these which are about as interesting as a cross section of a Tootsie Roll.

The seat need to be redesigned to be one large arcing seat between the doors, that will go with the flow of foot traffic.

They don’t mind it. All London Tube trains have bench seats on each side of the car. It’s what people are used to and it’s very efficient for trains that are very heavily loaded.

I have more of a problem with the bar in the middle of the bench seat. That’s silly. What’s the point of that? To help people up who have limited mobility?

2022? Are they building those by hand or what?
