Desktop wallpaper from the May 2011 Model Railroader

Excellent JobI love the intersection!

very nice

Nice Passenger Train and scenery , super detailing , sure brings back fond memories of those EMD’s whizzing past the train station and flat lands in the Fairfield/Suisun area here in Calif. ! Jim

I have a daughter who lives in fairfield ca.is this scene from
the fairfield area

very beautifull and nice scenery!Thank you for your choice.

Paul Krajkovich Jr. in Penns. , I believe Bob is modeling his railroad in Idaho , there are two areas near Fairfield ,Calif. that have almost the exact same feel and look , The EMD’s I saw as a young person were mostly Black Widow’s (SP) , an occasional UP set would be seen headed towards Oakland, Calif. or Bay Area . I was Blessed living with my Grandparents in the mid 50’s and early 60’s ,as their home was roughly 100 feet from SP’s trackage which separated Suisun and Fairfield , Calif. Bob’s beautifully modeled UP Butte Line could have easily been located here . Jim

A very nice and simple, not cluttered, wall paper. Featuring one of my favorites, Union Pacific. Great job folks!

Great scenery and being a passenger buff, a perfect passenger train. Hey Bob, tell me about your arch-roof baggage/express cars…are they scratch built or did you mill the roofs? Thanks for the great picture.

I have tried to download the 1600x900 size. Nothing seems to work. A JPG file would work great, but this ASHX file does not work on my Vista laptop. Any help would be greatly appreciated. The photo is an excellent one along with the model work.

Could one reduce the May background to approx 400 x 600
which fits better on my laptop.
I would like to have this picture as a background.

Is it possible to download desktops from previous issues, even if there’s a charge? A rogue virus ate several I had saved, including my favorite, two Santa Fe locos crossing a bridge over a GMC tractor/trailer. (snif.)

Great photo, HOWEVER the upper light should not be lit. On the UP the headlight was in the lower casing and the upper casing was for a red-white signal light that was only used whenthe main was fouled (emergency stops, passengers crossing tracks to unload, etc).

Stephen from Florida:

Instead of downloading the “.ashx” link, just click the link. The image should load in the browser window. Then you can right-click on the image and “Save Image As.” Hope that works for you!

Bill from South Dakota:

Yes, you can download older wallpapers again. Look at the top of this column, where it says “Home >> How To >> How To Articles >> Layout Visits >> Desktop wallpaper…”. If you click “Layout Visits” there, you’ll go back up one level, where there’s a list of all our desktop wallpapers from previous issues (mingled among other layout visit articles). Download all you want, we’ll make more!

A. Van Buuren:

If your screen uses 600 x 400 wallpapers, then you’re using a 4:3 ratio, and our 1600 x 1200 wallpaper should work for you. Just choose the “Stretch” option when selecting the wallpaper, and your computer should size it down to fit. Happy railroading!

That photo looks really really really bad! It is white washed. Background looks like paper. I know someone who could redo that and make it look real.
Sunlight and outside!
