Where can I find a dog house to affix to the top of a tender for my Southern 2-8-2 Mikado-MacArthur in HO Scale? Thanks in advance for your help everyone!
Bowser offers a Pennsy-style doghouse, but if you have a half-decent photo of the prototype of your loco, you should be able to build something suitable from sheet styrene.
Wayne
Model Railroader for January 1982 has scale drawings of the Southern’s Ms-4 2-8-2s, by Bob Hundman. The drawings include details and dimensions of the doghouse, and a good rear-3/4 photo of a doghouse-fitted tender.
Wayne is correct -once you have a drawing and a photo, scratchbuilding a doghouse is a simple task. Here’s one I built for a Bachmann 2-8-0, based on the Hundman drawings.
The roof is Evergreen scribed styrene, used because it bends readily and keeps it shape. Once I curved it, I filled the grooves with Tamiya putty, applied thinly to give the impression of individual roof timbers visible under tarpaper or canvas cladding. The rest is just Evergreen scribed siding, with wire grabirons detailed with Grandt Line NBW castings. The doorknob and hinges are stretched sprue, and the sunshades are 10thou plain styrene.
All the best,
Mark.
