To detail my diesels should I:
-
Get a diesel detailing book and go in that direction,
-
Go to LHS,
-
Look at diesel pictures (i.e. from books or railpictures.net ) and detail them that way,
-
Or, another way (please specify).
By the way, I will be detailing a BNSF GP50. Also, I hope Joe Fugate does a “forum clinic” on this (and/or rolling stock).
all 4 are great suggestions, go to http://www.rr-fallenflags.org/ and pick out the diesel you want to model…Details West and Detail Associates make some nice detail parts…you can find them at a lot of one line hobby centers… www.internettrains.com , www.discounttrainsonline.com , and http://www.1stplacehobbies.com/ all sell detail parts…they can get real elaborate if you go all out and a $75.00 engine can get turned into a $120.00 one real quick…a lot of parts I’ll make myself …like grab irons and pin pull levers from small .025 spring rod…Chuck
Presision Scale also sells diesel detail parts. Have you seen How to Detail Diesel Locomotives By Jim Volhard?
www.railpictures.net is also good - I’ve found a fair bit of useful information there while adding the factory-supplied detail to Athearn Dash 9s. www.detailswest.com also offer detail parts and seem pretty comprehensive - take a look at the Dash 9s on their site - Athearn BB but upgraded to Genesis standard!
Do GP50s have K3s for air horns?
