Detailing Locomotives

Ive seeing on the internet while shopping for train stuff and I keep seeing detail parts for Locomotives and train cars. I have a Old Toy Story Train Locomotive, it appears to be an SD40 maybe,it looks alot like my GP40-2 but it has 6 wheel trucks.

But anyway, Im want to repaint it to make it a Southern Railroad Loco, My Grandfather was and Engineer for Southern out of Norris yard here in Birmingham Alabama.I want to use some of these detail parts. Does anyone know of a website or book, maybe even a DVD of someone actually detailing a Diesel Locomotive so I can see how its done?

Finally, look at http://index.mrmag.com/ to search ALL SORTS of magazines’ back-issues; you can search on detailing articles, and/or by specific locomotives. Model Railroading magazine also had a monthly article which showed a couple of pictures of a particular locomotive model, owned by a particular railroad, with a list of available details (from multiple manufacturers) to replicate that particular engine.

Hope this helps!

Thank you for the links, I did find the one book from Amazon Last night. I waited to check my local Books a million, but its older book, so Amazon would be the way to go. But I want to look into the other link you included too, Thank you again for the help

If you’re busying used books, also check out http://www.addall.com/used/. I sometimes find either better-quality, or better prices, if I look around multiple “stores”, but AddAll does it for you (within a list of about 20 stores).
