Detailing/Painting n scale trucks/wheels

Hi all!

I am a modeler in n scale and am wondering how to get a nice look out of my n scale trucks and wheels on my freight/passenger cars and locomotives. I do not use an airbrush and am not a great artist by any means! I just want to dull down the shiny ‘newness’ that obscures all detail in the truck sideframe and wheels. I like when they look grayish dirty dusty rusty etc.

Does anyone have a non-airbrush way to achieve this look?

Thanks!

I came up with a mix of 20 parts Roof Brown, 5 parts Tuscan Red, 4 parts green, 3 parts black; dry brush onto both sides of wheels, and on sideframes. Maybe a little Rust, Grime, too. (All these are Floquil colors).

Thanks! I will give that a try…

Hello NR
Im sold on these powders like them much better than
dry brushing, I have tried dry brushing ok on other things
but love the powders on engines and rolling stock
