Details on Santa Fe Northern #3780 are done!...

Hi gang. I’m pleased to report that I finally got around to doing all of the detail work earlier today on the Bachmann N scale Santa Fe Northern #3780 that I’ve been planning for about four months now. Originally, I was going to paint over the factory numbers and re-decal it into #3751, but decided at the last minute to just leave the original numbers alone. I’m sure that at some point and time in its history it looked a lot like #3751… Anyways, I painted the smoke box door flat dark gray, put the brass builders plates on both sides and put tiny decal numbers (3780) on each side of the sand dome. About the only other thing I could possibly do is put an engineer and fireman in the cab… If however anyone has any suggestions I’d happily welcome them. I’ll be using it to pull a consist of 85’ heavyweight passenger cars including an RPO, baggage, sleeper, coach, diner and observation car. When I get bored with that I’ll put it to work pulling WWII ear freight.

Come on man, give us some pics! [:D]

I think it was the previous issue of MR (March?) that featured an article on adding minor detail to steam locomotives. That would be a good article to read. It even used a Santa Fe Northern as an example…However, it was a BLI if I’m not mistaken.

Man, I wish I could post pics of it TrainFreak409. It turned out pretty nice if I do say so myself… I just regret that it’s a Bachmann and not a more quality model. Oh well. We work with what we have.
