Detroit bound

My wife and I are going to Detroit next weekend for a short trip and I would like to know if anybody out there can give me what they think is the overall #1 best trainwatching spot in the Detroit area. Safe, easy to get to and lots of trains would be my specification. Many thanks to all who can help. [:)]

Safe, around Detroit? Maybe Chicago!

Seriously, I’d suggest Plymouth (all CSX), but others may have better ideas.

Maybe Annarbor,or Yipislantti? It has been too many years since I’ve been in that area.

Plymouth is good. Only really good spot to watch is at the restaurant, though. Still need to convince the local park system to put up a pavilion on their property.

Dig into your back copies of Trains - there was a guide for Detroit, last year I think.

Holly is at the intersection of the old GTW and CSX, about an hour out of Detroit. Can’t vouch for the traffic, however. Did catch one train there last year.

Durand would be a day trip out of Detroit, but has a gorgeous station and a fair amount of traffic.

Along line that runs through Dearborn is “The Henry Ford”, home of an Allegheny and several other RR rolling stock, and Greenfield Village, which has some RR buildings. It’s an all day trip, though.

Enjoy your trip. And yes, there are some areas to stay out of…

Yes have a safe trip
stay safe
