Devore Wally has passed away

Fellow Cajon Pass Railfan, Historical & BS Society members:

Just saw the post from Gyralite (reproduced below) on Trainorders about Wally’s passing. Wasn’t sure if you were aware or not, thought you would want to know. Wally and his blue Chevy will be missed.

Respectfully,

Burlington John

I received word today that Wally, the older gentlemen that could usually be found in the cafe parking lot at Devore greeting all the passing trains, has passed away. The crews have missed seeing him for over a month now and I found out he had taken a bad fall and, as a result of injuries from that fall, passed away yesterday, August 17. Wally lived alone. I don’t have any further information regarding possible services, etc. but if I hear anything, I’ll let everyone know.
God bless his soul.
The BNSF and UP crews will miss his friendly greeting.

That is, indeed, sad. One can gain comfort, however, that he enjoyed greeting each passing train and the response he received from the crews. People like Wally will always be missed.

Indeed it is sad. [:(]

Rest in peace, Wally.
