What sort of sound would you add to a junction between two rail lines? Crossing bells? Clickety clack of wheels on rails?
Hi Bob,
I was asking about a way to replicate the sound that prototype wheels make as they clatter over a diamond crossing where two different tracks cross each other.

How would that sync with the train’s wheels? The only way to to have that, would be to use metal wheels on all cars and put a mini microphone either next to, or preferable between the ties and blast it out over a sound system. “Sounds” like fun to me. I have always liked the sound of the wheels clicking even at crossings.
In the old days, one could listen to that sound all night long in a sleeper. The joints in the rails were offset so a rythmic sound started. I heard it referred to as hymy manush, hymy manush.
I once visited a 6 way crossing in Northern Indiana, South of Gary where 3 differant railroads crossed each other. I was amazed and took a long lost picture of it. I don’t think that “diamond” was the name for that one.
Try metal wheel sets…
