Dickens: 844’s return likely in 2016

I assume the exception areas would be the ex CNW main line through Rochelle Illinois. If UP wanted to rub steam why not borrow 4449 when she is done with her rebuild.

Ed Dickens has burned his bridges in the steam community. I’m pretty sure the 4449 crew will want nothing to do with helping out UP Steam as long as Ed is in charge

Bring back Steve Lee !!!

I never got why all the hate against Ed was warranted? Could someone explain?

I agree with Nicolas not sure why everyone hates Ed also what do you mean he burned his bridges with groups like 4449?

Basically he has an attitude that he is better than everyone and no one in steam community wants to work for him. One of the respected members of the 4449 crew worked at times for UP steam during the Steve Lee era and left after he retired because he didn’t want to put up with BS Dickens was doing. That’s why the 4449 crew won’t work with him.

UP steam is a public relations program. Ed Dickens was picked by UP to run this program. There is an incredible amount of vitriol going around about Ed and his efforts. (All facts)

My opinion: if the public continues to bad mouth Ed and everything about the state of the program (there isn’t a SINGLE story online about UP steam that doesn’t include a great deal of negative commentary), maybe UP will Fire Ed. Maybe they’ll fire everyone. Maybe UP’s public relations will go the way of CSX. I think people forget how fragile this is- we’re talking about THREE locomotives, which is still more than ever.

I’m content to let UP run their program how they want to run it. Im amazed at how many resources were put in to 4014, and I trust that they’ll figure out how to make it and the others work- as long as a “public relations” program continues to seem like a good idea to the men with the money.

I would like to see all three steamer’s operating

I agree with Matt Hoffman. It is UP’s program and they should run as they see fit. I can’t wait to see any one of their Steamers back on the high iron again.

I get everyone point I just wish they run trips to Chicago more often…

It’s spelled “Bob Krieger”…TRANES should be able to get it right.

The main reason they don’t want to run to Chicago is because they get in the way of the regular trains there. The last time they did (13 years ago), they didn’t even go into Chicago proper. The excursions ran out of West Chicago, 40 miles out from downtown, and never ran east of Proviso Yard.
