It is my understanding that Santa Fe painted multiple sets of FT units in Warbonnet color to be used in passenger service (late '40s to early '50s). Later, all were re-painted in freight colors. My question: Did any of the FT units pull the SuperChief?

…I just looked at an article showing F7’s on the Santa Fe Super Chief and they were in war bonnet colors…Date was 1951-1953. I worked in the Kingman, Az. area in 1969 and watched the action on the main line of the Santa fe travel through there and at that time I saw some PA’s pulling the S C through there. I guess I don’t know if the F7’s qualify for your question or not.

There are photos of the FTs on the Super Chief in John McCall’s Early Diesel Daze. Photos of the 167LABC set on Raton Pass are on page 165 and the 163LABC set at Isleta, NM on page 186. The FTs were evidentily bumped off the Super Chief in favor of the F3s.
I don’t think the FTs were a regular assignment to the Super Chief. They were regularly assigned to the Chief until 1946 with the arrival of the PAs & F3s. I thought the Super regularly ran behind the E6’s until 1949 when the first passenger F7s #37-#41 took over. Of course there are always exceptions to the regular assignments. For my modeling, I continue to hope to find a picture of the Super behind the PAs.
