Did these BNSF engines carry this type of FUEL tender??

I bought 2 of these from Ebay. I had to have them. I am crazy for this paint scheme, and at $65.00 including priority mail I couldn’t pass them up. I also bought a fuel tender. I am not sure of the roads go together or if the BNSF even used fuel tenders.

FUEL TENDER

I can’t remember if BNSF used that type or not. I’ll have to search my notes.

I’ve lived by the BNSF (ex-BN) “Raceway” for 23 years and I’m pretty sure I saw fuel tenders like that but it was probably a good 12 years ago (before the merger), so the details are pretty fuzzy.

I have never seen fuel tenders on the BNSF and I’m first and foremost an SF fan and never saw tenders on the SF.

No. The feul tenders were not used with AC4400cw locomotives.

Most of the fuel tenders were used with SD40-2 helper sets on Crawford Hill, and IIRC, I saw a set on Marias Pass once. Most any engine can be set up to use them as long as they have the ‘plumbing’ added to draw fuel from these tenders. Have any AC4400CW’s be modified - Not sure. Maybe someone has a current roster of fuel tender assignments and what engines have the ‘plumbing’.

After reading a little I see they probably didn’t, and like said about ot on the AC4400’S. Below is a good article on them.

Don’t see them used that much , CSX has some but they really aren’t used much. We are using one at GE as an additional Fuel storage tank for Loco testing.

Nope, I think they were all GP50’s. Here’s a picture of a fuel tender going through LaGrange Illinois that I took back in 1993.

You might want to paint it yellow! I took this in West Chicago in 1996.

BN used a set of 4 SD40-2s for Helper’s on Crawford Hill near the powder river basin. The consist was 2 SD40-2s, a fuel tender like the one you saw on ebay, and another 2 SD40-2s. I think BNSF discontinued the fuel tender’s. The UP also experimented with them in much the same way.

as bigboy said, I also think BNSF don’t use them anymore.

I believe the short answer is no. The BN tried them for a while back in the 1980’s. I don’t know when they discontinued them but I am quite certain it was before the merger and before the 4400’s were manufactured. There is no mention of them in the 1994 “yearbook”. I only ever saw one in person once here in Denver. It was two SD40-2s-fuel tender-two SD40-2s on a coal train. That was about the last time I saw an NP painted caboose…

I don’t think so. As far as I know only the GP50’s, the LMX B39-8s, and certain SD40-2s that were assigned to pusher service at Crawford Hill. I think all the fuel tenders were converted back to regular status and were assigned to company fuel tranport in the late 1980’s.

Well there is a brass set for sale on eBay:

…but it is CSX though.

Hey, it’s your own layout, do whatever, since you already bought it.
Unless you want to be realistic…

The UP and the BN did infact use Fuel tenders.

There’s a mention of the BN fuel tenders in Kalmbach’s Contemporary Diesel Spotter’s Guide, at least the edition I have. I bought it back in the early/mid 90’s but I don’t recall much of what it said. If I can find it when I get home tonight I’ll try to post back the info.

Does anyone read previous posts to subjects before posting?

Duh, I don’t think so. And btw, “in fact” is two words.

They were used with the SD40-2’s on coal trains. I have pictures of four SD40-2’s on a coal train in Cheyenne with one of the fuel tenders between the middle two units. This would give them an extended run for the four units and later you could view some of the tenders on Crawford hill used by helpers.

BITE ME. FYI. THE UP DID USED FUEL TANK CARS SLICED TWO AC44CW’S WHEN THEY RAN COAL TRAINS. NOT ALOT. BUT THEY DID.[:(!]

Actually, this has been quite an eye-opener for me. On the east coast I don’t think I’ve ever seen this anywhere in my travels. Thanks for sharing the informations and especially the Pictures folks!

Chris

The “I don’t think so” comment was directed at the question about posters actually reading previous posts. Not that UP did or didn’t use fuel tenders. I provided a frickin picture of the *** UP tender! If you actually read things before you post, you would know that, numb-nutts.
