When detailing a diesel are there any details you would leave of until after painting, such as handrails?
Nope…just paint the locomotive as a WHOLE and remove grabs for decalling AFTER you paint(that way they match). Atleast, thats how I do it.

This is what I leave off:
- Window glazing
- Headlights
- Class lights
- Snowplow
- Couplers
- Number boards
- Antenna
- MU cables
- Rotary beacons
- Ditch lights
- All weather windows
- Handrails
In short, anything that will be damaged by paint or during masking tape removal.
I also leave off details that are more efficiently painted off the unit due to a different color or are in the way.
