Diesel facility(ies)

Ok, so I’m back to using the plan ulrich had provided me on my first attempted layout. Ulrich Thank you again.

This time it’ll be about two feet longer, but thats something for another time

I’m curious to see if the Heljan #612 railroad wash facility kit would serve as an adequate diesel servicing facility, then just beyond that would I place a sand and fueling station kit or did that have it’s own tracks?

Most of the SP&S buildings in the background of the SP&S Diesels book are brick buildings most that look similar to some of the kits and with some details and decals they’d make a good stand in.

You can use anything you want for a an engine house. especially for a “stand in”.

You can scratch build one if you don’t find w you are looking for.

I am not at all sure what look you are going for? Perhaps if you posted a pic of the 1:1 engine house you desire, it would help us?

Hi Burlington,

Use your structure because, believe it or not, thiis kit is THE SAME EXACT kit that Heljan produced for Bachmann years back as a diesel locomotive service shop! The only basic difference with this version is that the roof vents and the attached equipment supply shed are missing.

I can’t find it, but back in 2005 I posted a thread on diesel locomotives service shops with a link to the Bachmann kit. For several years a lot of those kits showed up on ebay.

Go for it and have fun!

Gary,

Are you aware of this one. I built it years back, when it was Suydam, mattboard and North Eastern stripwood, produces a fine model, if you want to test your skills.

Rich

Does Alpine Division Scale Models make that structure in N scale?

Rich

Rich,

Oh YEAH! I forgot. I don’t think so. Can’t remember everything. [:)] [banghead]

Found a built up, sanding tower:

The sand and fueling facilities could be on the track leading to the shop or could have their own track. I would think that the amount of traffic would determine whether locos being serviced would be in the way of those needing to go to the shop.

Dear SPOKANE, It wasn’t clear if you’re talking about HO scale or N scale. If you’re talking about HO scale, Walther’s Cornerstone series makes an excellent 3 stall diesel servicing facility (kit). You can easily find this kit on Ebay. I hope this helps! -artguy

Who is Spokane?

Too funny [(-D]

Marked in my Signature N scale.

Ok thank you for the responses thus far, looks like I will squeak by using it as an engine house.

As for 1:1 photos, I’ve searched and searched still couldn’t find a photo of SP&S facilities. I’m using the ones in the backgrounds of loco photos as reference.

Gary,

Did You check this site out:

Hi,

I just bought these on ebay.

DIAMOND SCALE FUELING STATION & SAND TOWER

THIS KIT CAM WITH IT

I ALSO GOT THIS WASH RACK FROM EBAY

Diamond Scale sells the first two pictured along with the wash platform for about $80.00. It’s mounted to a heavy board thar keeps things flat, and comes with bags & bags of detail parts and hoses. The wash rack was a separate item I bought from Ebay for I think $16.00.

MIKE

I found a sample photo of the Bachmann Locomotive Shop (N-scale version).

Yes, I haven’t signed up yet. I plan on getting the SP&S freight and passenger car book as that will come in handy. I plan on going to the SP&SRHS meeting this upcoming weekend.

Here are a few buildings I built in N scale 16 years ago.

First two pics are from the older Bachmann car shop model…

Pic 3 is the Walthers “cornerstone series” car shop…

Pic 4 is the “cornerstone” engine house…which is the old Heljan kit from decades before…

Pic 5 and 6 is two “cornerstone” Diesel shop kits that I kitbashed into the 6 track building you see in the pics…

Thank you for sharing the photos, those kits look good. How do you get the walls to come out nice and even, that has unfortunately been one of my troubles whilst building kits. they come out a bit funny.

First I used a long straight edge along the bottom of the walls…then I used some styrene sheet do join the long walls together and reinforce them.
