Diesel Maintenance Facility Doors

Simple question: What year did overhead rolling steel doors originate?

…Thinking of purchasing a Bachmann N-Scale Diesel Maintenance Facility kit, and wondering if another type of door would need to be kitbashed onto the facility kit if the year does not fit my prototype year => 1956.

Any other suggestions if these overhead doors were not invented by the mid-1950s?

If you look at the light, you can barely see the roll up steel door on top. This is a 1950s car maintence shop. I say you’re okay. Even if I’m wrong, I HIGHLY doubt anyone would know.

The roll-up overhead garage door was invented in 1921 by the Overhead Garage Door Co.

The use of a roll-up garage door in a time period AFTER 1921 is prototypical.

The electric garage door opener was invented by the same company in 1926.

Hope that helps.

Darrell, quiet…for now

Another vintage roll up door.

Thank you for the input and the prototype confirmation.

The Bachmann Diesel Maintenance Facility appears to be out of production, but currently eBay available from Prestige Model Productions, and is hard to pass up for an n-scale structure. This American prototype model sure reminds me of the diesel switcher building for the industrial short line, the Conemaugh & Blacklick Railroad, that served over ten miles of the former Bethlehem Steel plants in Johnstown, Pennsylvania.

The thing that really appeals to me about this forum is how so many people can benefit from a simple question like this for their own layout planning.
