I need help designing a small open air diesel service area of the 1950s on my HO layout.
I have a beautiful description of what I need in October 2007 MR issue and some other sources.
I could probably find something ready made from one of the big manufacturers of the plastic kits, but given the scope of the project (small), I would be happy to scratch-build the stuff.
For this I’m lacking a couple of good pictures of such facilities. Links, files and references to publications will all do.
Have you taken a look at MR’s The Model Railroader’s Guide to Locomotive Servicing Terminals by Marty McGuirk (Kalmbach Publishing)?
I found it very helpful and chock full of pictures and ideas on the different types of fueling facilities. Should be readily available at your LHS.
While poking around to get a picture of the above reference, I just discovered another one that I wasn’t familiar with: Steam Locomotive Coaling Stations and Diesel Locomotive Fueling Facilities by Thomas Dixon Jr.
