Diesel weathering question

I have a question regarding diesel weathering that i’ve been trying to work out in my head for a while now. What is the easiest way to avoid painting the windows? If it is something like an older athearn RTR or BB locomotive (with the one-piece front, side and back window glazing) it is easy to remove and later snap back into place. But if it is something more complicated, like an athearn genesis SD70, the windows are sometimes quite difficult to reinsert (learned that the hard way last weekend - anyone know whare to get some spare window glazings? [:)] I’ve had some success with cutting out small pieces of tape and placing them over the windows, but this doesn’t always work as well as i would like, i.e. with non-rectangular window shapes. I’m curious to hear if anyone has some tips, tricks, or simply a better idea.

As always, many thanks,

Peter.

Peter I have used “playdoh” before. Just shape it to the windows, and its good for a few days. I’ve also heard of a clear liquid you can put onto plastic. After you are done weathering, I believe it cleans off with water. Just not sure what the name of the product was.
