Difference between Atlas locos

Hi,

I have been looking over ebay for some RF&P loco’s and have found 3 different Atlas listed. These are all HO. One is Atlas Gold, the other Atlas silver and then the plain blue and yellow box Atlas I remember. What is the difference between the first 2? There is a $50 diff. in price and both are over $100. The yellow/blue box is $25. I don’t want that one as the paint scheme is wrong. But I have no idea about the others.

TIA,

Jeff

Jeff,

The Atlas Gold Series is equipped with a QSI DCC decoder with sound. The Atlas Silver Series is the same locomotive without the sound decoder. It has a socket into which you can install a decoder.

As Don said, the Gold units are equipped with DCC and sound. The unit’s sound is very good. The Silver units are the same as the Gold, but without the DCC or sound. They are DCC ready and have an 8 pin plug.

The blue and yellow box are from the late 1980s/early 1990s and may or may not be DCC ready. While all three units drives are excellent, the Gold/Silver units are better detailed.

Like all that has been said. SOME of the Silver series come with a 4 function decoder in them. Old new stock should be about $70 - $99 for silver and $100 - $160 for gold. ALL of my locos are Atlas gold or silver… I really like them. They are smooth runners and look great to me. I would check the Atlas site for more

I wish Atlas would do a SD9
