Differences in trucks

Just looked on ebay at an atlas rs-1 and it has friction bearing trucks. What is this?

Atlas offers both friction bearing and roller bearing truck sideframes. The friction bearing ones have a rectangular cover over the area where the alxe is. The roller bearing sideframes have a round cover. For your model, it really makes no mechanical difference. The 2 different sideframes are interchangable and are available from the Atlas parts web page.

so this is more a prototypical thing than a model running thing. ok thanks.

rs2mike:

ALCO RS-1’s were an early diesel (late 40’s?) and probably were retro fitted with roller bearings when shopped. Our models don’t use - or need.
